We're coming up on year one of living through the pandemic and it’s clear Covid-19 has impacted all parts of society. Older adults are one of the most at-risk groups during this period, and it is encouraged that they stay indoors and away from people as much as possible. However, we know that older adults still have important appointments to go to; particularly, trips to the doctor and medical checkups. Finding a safe and reliable ride to these appointments can be very difficult. We have seen the need for services like Onward – which offers safe and reliable transportation – to serve an increasingly critical role during these times.
In fact, even though other ride sharing services like Uber and Lyft have seen their ride volumes decline by 70% this year, we have seen requests for our service almost double from last January to January 2021 in large part due to our Covid-19 safety precautions as well as our ability to offer assistance with a high degree of safety.
As we've seen the need for our service grow, we are proud to announce that we are bringing assisted transportation to the greater Sacramento area, starting March 1. We have a team of great drivers who have been thoroughly vetted, interviewed, trained, and are eager to lend a helping hand within the Sacramento community.
One of our drivers, Amy, signed up to drive as she’s seen the impact Covid-19 has had on older adults within her own family. She has firsthand experience helping others, as her mother-in-law is currently going through chemotherapy treatments outside of the Sacramento area. Ensuring she has safe, assisted rides when Amy can’t be there to help has been critical. One of her favorite quotes she tries to live by is "Helping others in need is not only a responsibility of life, it is what gives meaning to life."
